Length 6.0 - 10.0 mm; body black-blue or reddish violet; pronotum and elytra on the upper side finely dotted, pronotum rounded forward on the sides; legs predominantly metallic violet, only the tarsi brown; base of the antennae and palpi brown.The males are considerably smaller than the females and have strongly widened tarsi.
Biology:
Chrysolina sturmi lives predominantly on ground-ivy (Glechoma hederacea) (family Lamiaceae), possibly also on other species of the family, as well as on common toadflax (Linaria vulgaris) (family Plantaginaceae).The larvae and imagines of the species feed mainly at night and hide on the ground below the host plant during the day. The beetles hatch in July, mate in autumn and start laying eggs into the ground in September.
