Classification:
Chilocorus renipustulatus belongs to the subfamily Chilocorinae, tribe Chilocorini.
Distribution:
Palearctic.
Habitat:
In wet biotopes on deciduous trees and shrubs.
Description:
The Kidney-spot Ladybird Chilocorus renipustulatus has a body length of 4.0 - 5.0 mm. The almost hemispherical, predominantly black beetle has a pronotum with rounded base not closely following the line of the base of the elytra and elytra each with a red or yellow, round or kidney-shaped spot in the centre. The side edges of the arched elytra are clearly flattened.
Biology:
The Kidney-spot Ladybird Chilocorus renipustulatus lives on the trunks and branches of a variety of deciduous trees and shrubs, such as alder, ash, rowan, willow, oak, field maple, birch and dogwood. Adults and larvae are predators feeding on scale insects (coccoidea). Willow scales (Chionaspis salicis) developing on the bark of willows and other host trees are often on the menu. The beetles hibernate in protected places on deciduous trees near the trunk base.
