Distribution:
Southern Fennoscandia south to the Pyrenees; Ireland east through much of central Europe (and northern Italy) to the former Yugoslavia and European parts of Russia.
Habitat:
Deciduous forest, Fagus and Quercus forest with overmature trees.
Description:
Body length 10 - 12 mm; strongly haired with bee-like appearance; arista bare; face in the lower half yellow, without black central stripe; thorax shiny without longitudinal stripes; abdominal segments 3 and 4 shiny, without spots; hind femora thickened; antennae and legs variably coloured. Males: Eyes touch each other. Females: Frons for the most part dusted.
Similar species:
A similar species is the slightly bigger Brachypalpus valgus.
Lebensweise:
Brachypalpus laphriformis flies from end of April to June/July.
The adults visit the flowers of umbelliferae (Apiaeae), barberry (Berberis), hawthorn (Crataegus), Photinia, black cherry (Prunus serotina) and Sorbus.
