Classification:
Didea fasciata belongs to the subfamily Syrphinae, tribe Syrphini.
Distribution:
Fennoscandia south to the Pyrenees and Spain; Italy and Greece; from Ireland eastwards through Eurasia to the Pacific coast; in North America from British Columbia south to New Mexico and east to New York; in the Oriental region to northern India and Formosa.
Habitat:
Deciduous and coniferous forest, mostly with well-developed undergrowth.
Description:
Didea fasciata has a body length of 11 - 13 mm. The abdomen has pronounced yellow markings. The face is yellow without a dark central stripe. The knob of the halteres is yellow.
Biology:
Didea fasciata flies from April to October.
The larvae live on conifers and deciduous trees and feed on aphids.
