Classification:
Haematopota crassicornis belongs to the subfamily Tabaninae.
Distribution:
Europe, Russia (to West Siberia), Middle Asia.
Habitat:
Moist woodland, frequent in mountainous regions.
Description:
Body length 7.5 - 11.5 mm; wings patterned, laid together like a roof in resting position; 1st antennal segment shiny black, broad oval, in the females without sub-apical notch; 3rd antennal segment completely black.
Biology:
The Black-horned Cleg Haematopota crassicornis flies from May to July mostly in the area of acidic swamps at mountain slopes.
