Note:
The genus Hybomitra is represented in Germany with 19 mostly medium-sized species.
Characteristics: Mainly black or grey horse flies, often with rust brown side spots on the abdomen; eyes hairy, with 3 stripes; frons (forehead) of females with well developed ocellar tubercle.
