Distribution:
In parts of Europe (absent on the Iberian Peninsula and in the northeast); locally frequent in central and southern Germany.Habitat:
In forests, parks, river flood plains and settlements on maple (Acer); up to altitudes of 1250 m.Description:
Length 6.0 - 6.5 mm; mainly brown; wing veins dark brown to black with white sections.Biology:
Adults of Acericerus heydenii can be found almost all year round. They like to fly into apartments in autumn and winter.Acericerus heydenii forms one generation per year and lives on maple, mostly on sycamore maple (Acer pseudoplatanus), significantly less on Norway maple (Acer platanoides), field maple (Acer campestre) and Montpellier maple (Acer monspessulanum).
The females lay their eggs in the tissue of the host plants. After hatching, the nymphs pass through 5 instars. Final instar nymphs are found in August and September.
Acericerus heydenii hibernates as adult.
