Distribution:
Europe, introduced to North America.
Habitat:
On willows (Salix) in humid environment.
Description:
Length 6.0 - 7.0 mm; brown mottled with black and yellow, venter paler.
The species can be distinguished from other similar species by the course of the cross veins which delimit the outer 3 cells at the tip of the fore wings. These are approximately aligned in a line. Both sexes have hair on the lower part of the face, particularly males. The males often have a yellow-orange patch on the outer edge of the wings.
Biology:
Adults of Idiocerus stigmaticalis can be found from July to October. The species is univoltin and lives on different species of willows.
The nymphs go through 5 instars. Last instar nymphs can be found from mid-June to early July.
Idiocerus stigmaticalis hibernates as egg.
