Classification:
Camptopus lateralis belongs to the subfamily Alydinae.
Distribution:
Palearctic: In Europe, throughout the Mediterranean to the eastern coasts of the Black Sea, Turkey and Cyprus; on the Iberian Peninsula, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands.
Habitat:
Grassland; up to altitudes of over 2000 m.
Description:
Length 12 - 15 mm; species with fully developed wings; body with brown base colouring and white margins; head wider than pronotum; antennae with 4 segments; hint femora with four spines; tibiae predominantly yellowish-brown; hint tibiae curved.
Biology:
Adults of Camptopus lateralis can be found on the Iberian Peninsula from January to October and the larvae from June to October. The bugs are polyphagous. They mostly feed on seeds of various species of Fabaceae and Lamiaceae, but have also been observed on Euphorbia characias (Euphorbiaceae), Quercus coccifera (Fagaceae) and Juniperus oxycedrus (Cupressaceae).
