Classification:
Crepidodera fulvicornis belongs to the subfamily Galerucinae, tribe Alticini.
Distribution:
Europe, in parts of Asia.
Habitat:
River floodplains, damp bushes, riparian margins, often in habitats with acidic soil.
Description:
Length 2.0 - 3.0 mm; body metallic green, ore brown, purple-coppery, blue or violet; pronotum with moderately dense to scattered, usually very coarse dots, contrasting from that on very uneven spaces, very finely dotted; transverse impression of pronotum clearly pronounced, mostly furrow-like deepened, almost straight; antennae usually quite light.
Crepidodera fulvicornis is built slightly narrower than the similar, larger Crepidodera aurea.
Biology:
Crepidodera fulvicornis forms one generation per year. The imagines can be found on their host plants from May to October (with peaks in early June and mid September). They live oligophagously on plants of the willow family (Salicaceae), in particular on willows [goad willow (Salix caprea), grey willow (Salix cinerea) and silver willow (Salix alba)], sometimes also on poplars [aspen (Populus tremula) and black poplar (Populus nigra)].
Crepidodera fulvicornis hibernates as an imago in the grass and foliage layer. After a maturation feeding, the eggs are laid. The larvae develop in summer and live on the roots of their host plants. The new beetle generation can be found outside from late summer.
