Classification:
Curculio betulae belongs to the subfamily Curculioninae .
Distribution:
Northern and Central Europe
Description:
Pale reddish brown beetle with a body length of 3 - 4.3 mm; upper side covered with sparse reddish yellow scales; snout (rostrum) and legs long; hind femora with a prominent tooth, middle femora with very small teeth.
Similar species:
A similar species is Curculio rubidus. In this species, all femora are untoothed, and rostrum, antennae and legs are shorter.
Biology:
The beetles can be found from July to September on alder, birch, blackthorn and cherry. Larvae develop in the fruits of host plants.
