Oblong oval beetle with a body length of 3.2 - 4.7 mm; pronotum, elytra and underside dense whitish-gray, sometimes a little reddish-gray scaled; pronotum on both sides with a black longitudinal spot; elytra in the middle with a darkly scaled transversal stripe broadened to the suture.The species is unmistakable due to the characteristic dark marking of elytra.
Biology:
Tapeinotus sellatus belongs to the hygrophilous species.Well-known host plants of Tapeinotus sellatus are garden loosestrife (Lysimachia vulgaris) and tufted loosestrife (Lysimachia tyrsiflora).
Adults of Tapeinotus sellatus can be found from April to August. Oviposition takes place from the beginning of May to mid-June. The eggs are individually deposited into the basal part of the stem of host plants. The larvae eat and develop in the stems and root necks. The new generation of weevils appears in the second half of August. These hibernate in plant residues and dedritus.
Tapeinotus sellatus is univoltin (forms one generation per year).
