Classification:
Anasimyia transfuga belongs to the subfamily Eristalinae, tribe Eristalini.
Distribution:
Southern Sweden south to northern France (Paris basin); Ireland east through mountainous parts of central and southern Europe (the former Yugoslavia, Roumania) into Russia as far as southern parts of central Siberia (Tuva).
Habitat:
Wetlands; mesotrophic ponds and lakes with Scirpus or Sparganium.
Body length:
9 - 11 mm.
Biology:
Adults fly from May to August. They are preferably found in the water edge vegetation. The flies visit white Apiaceae, Caltha palustris, Ranunculus repens, Sonchus arvensis, Sorbus aucuparia and Taraxacum.
Annotation:
Various authors treat Anasimyia as a subgenus of Helophilus. Other ones include these species in Lejops.
