Classification:
Didea intermedia belongs to the subfamily Syrphinae, tribe Syrphini.
Distribution:
Fennoscandia south to Iberia; Italy; the former Yugoslavia; from Britain eastwards through central and southern Europe into Russia and on to the Pacific coast (Kamchatka).
Habitat:
Coniferous and mixed forest.
Description:
With a body length of 7 - 12 mm Didea intermedia is the smallest species of the genus occurring in Germany. The abdomen has yellow markings. Didea intermedia has a black central face-stripe. The knob of the halteres is dark brown to black.
Biology:
Didea intermedia flies from May to September.
The larvae of the species feed on aphids.
