Volucella inflata belongs to the subfamily Eristalinae, tribe Volucellini.
Distribution:
From Sweden and northern Germany south to the Pyrenees and northern Spain; from Britain (England, Wales) eastwards through central Europe into European parts of Russia and on into the Caucasus.
Habitat:
Old deciduous forest with well-developed understory, including alluvial forest and thermophilous Quercus.
