Adults of Tephritis vespertina can be found from June to August. Females lay their eggs on flower heads of the host plants of larvae from the family Asteraceae. Known host plants are cat's ear (Hypochaeris radicata), bristly oxtongue (Helminthotheca echioides) and hawksbeard (Crepis). After hatching, the larvae of Tephritis vespertina feed and develop within the flower heads.References, further reading, links:
