Physiphora smaragdina is a metallic shiny picture-winged fly with striking striped eyes, hyaline wings with yellowish veins and a wing length of 2.9 - 4.5 mm. Physiphora smaragdina has a body length between 3.2 and 5.5 mm. The legs are dark brown to black (including the foretarsi) with exception of the completely or partly yellowish tarsi of the middle and hind legs.In the case of the similar Physiphora alceae listed for the Canary Islands, the 1st tarsomer of the foretarsi is 3/4 yellowish from the base.
Biology:
