Classification:
Callajoppa exaltatoria belongs to the subfamily Ichneumoninae.
Distribution:
Europe, Near East, Oriental Region
Habitat:
Forests, their fringes and parks - places where suitable hosts for the development of the larvae can be found.
Description:
Body length 24 - 32 mm
Similar species:
A similar species is Callajoppa cirrogaster, which is slightly smaller on average with a length of 20 - 27 mm.
Biology:
The adults of Callajoppa exaltatoria are active from July to August/September.
The Callajoppa larvae develop as endoparasitoids of moths of the family Sphingidae (hawk moths). A common host is the pine hawk moth (Sphinx pinastri, synonym: Hyloicus pinastri). The imagines hatch from the pupae of their hosts.
