Classification:
Diplazon laetatorius belongs to the subfamily Diplazontinae.
Annotation:

In Fuerteventura I found 2 puparia of hoverflies on Oleander (Nerium oleander) populated with many yellow plant lice. From the first puparium, a Marmalade Hoverfly (Episyrphus balteatus) developed, whose larvae feed on aphids mainly.
A few days later the ichneumonid Diplazon laetatorius shown here emerged from the second puparium. It feeds as larva from the hoverfly host, kills the hoverfly larva and completes its development in the puparium of the host.
Diplazon laetatorius is an almost worldwide common species. The Diplazontinae are koinobiont endoparasitoids of hoverflies.
